I love Autumn/Winter.
It's my favourite time of the year when you can wrap up in all the woolly goodness of coats and scarves and hats, when you can relax in a hot bath with a good book or just make yourself a seriously good hot chocolate on those cold, bitter nights.
Along with the changing of the weather and the socially acceptable attire, comes a different colour scheme of nail polish. Pastels are packed away until the following year and the darks make an appearance on the fingers.
I thought I'd share with you a quick rundown of my five favourite nail polishes that I (usually) reserve for the coming colder months.
Starting from the left...
Essie's Wicked - My all time favourite Essie shade. It's an almost black looking purple and I consider it my nude of the Autumn/Winter seasons. It dries really quick and is opaque in two coats.
Retail price: £7.99
American Apparel's Berry - A plumish red. Great for the Christmas period as it's a festive colour. I'd advise a base coat with this one as it tends to stain the nails on removal.
Retail price: £9.00
Barry M's Gelly in Almond - Now I have to wear a nude on my nails at some point all year round. It's my go to nail colour when I don't know what to paint my nails in...so it's safe to say, I have plenty of nail polishes in this shade. Almond is an off grey colour and it looks beautiful on the nails. A good call if you're not into eye-catching colours.
Retail price: £3.99
H&M's Very Berry - Very similar to the American Apparel one except much lower in price and is more pink based to American Apparel's red. I tend to gravitate towards this polish as it dries smooth and adds a good pop of colour to my otherwise (mostly) all black ensembles. I would also recommend a good top coat such as Seche Vite as the H&M polishes have a tendency to chip easily.
Retail price: £2.99
Essie's Truth or Flare - Not your typical A/W shade I'm aware, but it is a good choice for an all-year-rounder. It's an elephant grey sort of colour and grey is my favourite, so I'll certainly be whacking this out come rain or shine, or heaven forbid, snow.
Retail price: £7.99
